SURVIVING AS A PSYCHOTHERAPIST IN THE SOUTH AFRICAN CONTEXT

Following on the discussion at the recent latency children at risk workshop, it was felt that support is needed for therapists working in the SA context with vulnerable children, often neglected and exposed to violence. Beverley Tydeman has kindly offered 6 monthly supervision sessions on a Friday afternoon, where therapists will bring their child cases for group discussion and supervision. This will provide an important space for clinical discussion and understanding of child, adolescent and parent work. The group will also provide support and networking, and will assist with understanding and dealing with difficult feelings aroused when working with vulnerable children and their families. Participants will bring some experiences from their own practice for discussion so that clinical examples will illustrate the topics presented for further thought in the interest of the emotional development of ourselves as clinicians.
